How You Can Help Make a Difference
BitterSweet services are funded entirely by individual donations. Currently we have been funded by small donations from clients who felt our services made a difference in their experience with their animal. In order to continue our current services and reachout to other areas (particularly to areas impacted by economic challenges), we are seeking donations of $150,000. We are also seeking the donation of land in a natural setting to create a Grief Recovery Retreat Center for workshops and educational classes.

For those interested in supporting BitterSweet with non-monetary contributions, we are always grateful for the donation of books on any topic related to animals for our lending library.

We are particularly grateful for people willing to give their time. Our next volunteer training, which includes a mandatory grief recovery class and a workshop with a veterinarian, will be held in June/July 2007 . Volunteers are needed for phone support, in-home consultations, and for facilitating grief support events. Volunteers do not provide medical advice and require no medical experience.

The following are some of our non-monetary needs:

• Books (and articles) for our lending library (Specific Topics: animal care, animal behavior, the animal-human bond, animals in general, children and animals, animal loss, grief.)
• Animal care products such as dog wheel chairs, ramps, stairs, slings, etc.
• Absorbent pads (diapers or adult incontinence pads), synthetic fleece, washable rugs, towels, blankets, sheets, plastic sheeting
• Baskets (for storing supplies, or for collecting an animal’s toys)
• Water fountains, animal drinking fountains

• Urns
• Land and/or building for a grief recovery center
